Top 3 Reasons to Enjoy your Daily Cup (or two, or three) of Coffee

coffee

Does anyone start pretty much every day with a large cup o' joe? You can't see me, but my hand is raised sky high.

Here is my caffeine routine:

  • Pre-set coffee maker the night before.
  • Wake up to coffee pot percolating and delicious aroma wafting into my room.
  • Roll out of bed and beeline for the java.
  • Enjoy 1 cup with a pre-workout snack before getting my sweat on.
  • Come home from an energized workout and have another cup with breakfast.
  • Feel energized and ready to take on the day!

Yep - that is 2 cups per day for me. And I have a feeling that intake might get higher over the next few weeks... why you ask? Daniel and I are getting our Vizsla pup tomorrow!!! The very high energy breed is also know as the velcro breed because they stick to their owner at all times, especially if they don't get enough exercise. We have our work cut out for us, but holy moly are we excited!!

So, if we up our coffee intake during the puppy days, do we need to feel guilty? No way jose! Coffee has so many benefits and negative effects aren't seen unless intake exceeds 4 cups per day. When we look at all that coffee has to offer us, it is hard to narrow it down to just 3, but here is my top 3 list of reasons to enjoy your daily caffeine high:

1. Coffee can make you happier.

Have you ever finished a cup of coffee and just felt completely elated for no reason. Yep, me too. And you weren't making it up. This is a real phenomenon. Several studies show that people who regularly drink coffee are less likely to suffer from depression. In particular, a 2011 study done at Harvard showed that women who drink 4 cups of coffee per day were 20% less likely to become clinically depressed.

2. It helps keep you regular.

Coffee is a natural laxative and can help get things moving in the morning. I think I can pretty much speak for all of us when I say that an AM BM (what we call a morning bowel movement in our house) is the best way to start the day ;)

3. Caffeine improves brain function.

Clinical trials have linked regular coffee consumption to memory, mood, reaction times and general cognitive function. So basically coffee makes us smarter, sharper, and quicker. Reason enough for me to keep it in my morning routine.

How do you take your coffee? I like mine with a splash of hemp milk which is ultra creamy and has a nutty flavor I love.

Happy caffeinating everyone! Wish us luck with the pup!
